Electronic Body Music is one of the branches of industrial music. In the times of the so-called “new wave”, the emergence of both new genres and mixtures of existing ones, Electronic Body Music became popular precisely because it became one of the branches of industrial music. This determined the main priorities of the new trend. The heyday of alternative music, post-rock and punk as well as other more heavy and extreme styles demanded a different approach even to the creation of more mass dance compositions. Generally, the style of Electronic Body Music was created practically specially for dance, clubs and disco, and even had some similarities with pop music. But, with all that, its peculiarity is that it is not only more heavy and rock, but it also combines elements of industrial music – noise, interference, beats and other special effects which are combined in one march. But first things first.

History of Electronic Body Music

The origins of Electronic Body Music go back to 1984. At that time musicians from Belgium after many experiments defined absolutely new style of industrial music performance. They were legendary Front 242, they were the pioneers of the new style. Initially the musicians themselves characterized it so: technical and clear rhythms, special, almost artificial vocals, not inherent to human, and a mix with ambient, mostly electronic. The new style was immediately characterized by critics as a new synth pop. However, its proximity to industrial made the style rather heavy, and therefore the circle of its listeners and admirers became somewhat different from the popular music.

As for the performers of this style, there were not so many of them. Almost all of them for the most part belong to the old timers of industrial music. We can highlight the aforementioned Front 242, as well as Nitzer Ebb and Front Line Assembly. It would also be worth mentioning Leaether Strip. These bands created the basis of Electronic Body Music style, though they didn’t play it in its pure form. Most often they were separate albums or even compositions. Actually, the circle of listeners was not seldom limited to industrial fans, and even among them there were the opponents of the new style.

With the lapse of time and technical progress there were possibilities to use all kinds of special effects even more widely. And the style of Electronic Body Music received several branches. First of all they were differed by even more presence of electronic music, big distortions of sound and vocals. The revolution happened in the nineties. Two main directions were formed – Techno-industrial and Dark Electro. Both new styles were connected with a significant weighting of synthesizers and other instruments. Dark Electro became a very dark and depressing style, where the majority of motifs and songs were dedicated to not the most pleasant side of human life. Digital sound processing and distortion were widely used here. And Techno-industrial became much heavier than Electronic Body Music, but at the same time the vocals were recorded without any additional processing. It is quite brutal, but clean at the same time.

In modern times, the styles have found a continuation in club music, dance motifs. As you can see from the history, the style has undergone many changes, but it has remained with its main features – clear rhythms and quite heavy riffs. Its popularity is quite wide, and it moved from collective and instrumental music to purely electronic.

Accompanying man throughout his life, music gives him a lot of positive emotions, delivers pleasure, makes you laugh and cry. It is impossible to imagine modern life without music. It can be heard from TV screens, music centers, mp3 players and phones. Familiar tunes accompany us everywhere: at home, in concert halls, at sporting events, and in places of recreation. Many people are even used to working to music. Everyone has their own favorite music and favorite artists. Some people can’t imagine themselves without classical music, others only accept heavy rock, many people are attracted by author’s song.

Popular Music Genres and Directions

Among the many musical genres, jazz has always been considered one of the most popular. It comes from a fusion of West African rhythms, work songs, Negro religious and secular songs, and American folk music from centuries past. Maybe that’s why some people think it’s music for the poor. And some call it intellectual music for the chosen few. Everyone is right in his or her own way. Jazz is easy to recognize, but it’s hard to define. Even the musicians who perform it have difficulty defining what jazz is. Most likely, it is not just music, but a special state of mind, a dialogue with the listener, the high intensity of emotions.

World famous musicologist Marshall Stearns wrote about jazz from a purely historical point of view as semi-improvisational music that arose as a result of the mixing of white and black culture on North American soil. Therefore, Sterns referred to European harmony, Euro-African melody, and African rhythm as the main components of jazz.

Freedom, improvisation, rhythm merge in the alluring melody of the saxophone, the low voice of the bass guitar and the tinkling cymbals. Always different and distinctive, jazz becomes a model of beautifully coherent sound. He can do anything – slow, romantic melodies as well as fast, playful compositions. The highest performing skills, playing with sound and tempo underscore the aesthetic concept of jazz music.

Jazz lovers now have the opportunity to enjoy their favorite music almost without restriction. Jazz can be listened to online, you can download any album or selected compositions of your favorite artists. Of course, the audio equipment must be high class to convey all the subtleties of sound of this music. But, for example, Samsung mp3 player will help you to relax and unwind to the sounds of jazz, transmitting in high quality the exciting tones of the piano and the faltering sounds of the saxophone. In order not to make a wrong choice, it is better to study a catalog of mp3 players, read their reviews. And then you will have the pleasure of listening to great music.

Babies who are just discovering the world love music, singing, and dancing. Even if the singing or dancing mother is not very musical, they enjoy listening and watching her. A good mood is transmitted to them.

How music affects children

Children love it when parents sing along with them, no matter how they do it. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer families are singing and dancing with their little ones. However, music is not only useful because it is a source of energy for children’s brains. Children who sing regularly have an easier time learning, studies have shown. Singing promotes language acquisition and logical-mathematical understanding, makes you happy, and helps reduce aggression.

Children are born with a charge of musicality. This potential must necessarily be encouraged: singing together, as a daily ritual, with parents and in kindergarten is an irreplaceable and useful life experience. It has not only a musical impact.

Music improves social behavior.

Sociologists claim that singing and listening to music together, for example, has a positive effect on family cohesion. Parents notice an improvement in children’s social behavior, and the relationship between children and parents becomes closer. It does not matter if both hit the right notes or know nothing about the composer. Rather, perception, eye contact, joint movements and, above all, enjoyment of the music are at work.

Classical as a bridge between generations

Babies under a year old already respond to music. They look up to their parents and learn by watching, imitating, and repeating endlessly. For parents and grandparents, it’s a treasure chest of sorts, full of ideas for everyday life. For example, a morning song when dressing your baby positively sets them up for their day in kindergarten. Classic children’s songs should also be part of the repertoire. They are preserved and passed down from generation to generation, thus resembling bridges between generations.

Integrating Music into Everyday Life

Music should be played in the house as often as possible, whether it’s classical, rock or pop that parents like. Tact is beaten to anything that might remind you of a drum, plus baby rattles or rattles can be used as maracas.

Parents can train their children’s fine hearing by talking to them about what they’ve heard: do they like the music? How does it feel – light or heavy? What do children hear – roar, thunder, or hum?

Plus, children can be taken to concerts from an early age.

Taking your offspring to a concert

You can listen to “live” music in philharmonic societies, concert halls or simply on the street. The main condition is that it was not a synthesizer. The condition is that children themselves must understand and distinguish between different types of music, vocals and instruments.

Too loud music through amplifiers or loudspeakers can be dangerous for children’s hearing, so parents should protect children’s ears if they take them to concerts, such as rock performers.

Instrument? Only by choice!

Speaking of an instrument, psychologists and music teachers emphasize that the best way for parents is to be guided by their kids’ wishes. The child himself should choose the instrument he likes. And this is not always the same as the parents’ wishes.

When is the first time to take your baby to a teacher? This is very individual. But before the age of three years experts do not recommend doing it.

Today we have witnessed the fading interest of music lovers in CDs. The most prestigious format for playing music is vinyl records. After several decades in oblivion, they are back in favor. Their unique sound can not be replaced by anything else. And although the demand for them has increased considerably, music lovers are not always able to find the right album: the difficult situation in the market.

Analogue sound is beyond compare

You can praise CDs as much as you like, it doesn’t make them any better. Vinyl records are another matter. You think their triumph these days is an accident? Not at all. After several decades of the dominance of CDs, true music lovers have realized how mistaken they were in thinking that technical innovation could offer something better than good old vinyl.

The analog sound of gramophone records is good because your favorite works sound virtually undistorted – just the way the musicians played them. And that’s the main achievement, allowing you to enjoy the real sound: without all the impurities and special effects. It is for this reason that we are now seeing a decline in interest in CDs and an increase in demand for vinyl records.

Vinyl is a classic. The same as the soulful sounds of a violin or a gentle flute, an acoustic guitar or other musical instruments. It is unlikely that in the near future we will be able to offer a decent alternative to vinyl records. Moreover, it is profitable to buy them, because every year the price of rare copies invariably increases.

Although the name “k-pop” comes from an abbreviation of the “popular music” and “korean,” the difference between it and any other pop music is not just a national difference. K-pop originally appeared as a musical genre with its own characteristic differences, and then it turned into a musical subculture.

Features of k-pop as a genre of music

The songs in this genre are pretty short, about 3.5 minutes on average. The structure of the songs is standard for pop music: the alternation of two verses with a chorus and then the bridge-chorus. But what makes k-pop special is its eclecticism: it contains elements of many musical genres at the same time. It includes hip-hop, electropop, R’n’B, sometimes dubstep, EDM, hip-house and other dance music genres.

What’s also special about k-pop: almost all the songs, even the quiet and lyrical ones, have elements of rap. Rap can consist of whole verses, which are combined with vocal verses and bridge.

The songs are sung in Korean, but English is almost always present in the lyrics. Usually they are simple phrases that are often repeated and attract listeners, especially foreigners. The main theme of the songs, as in most pop music, is love and relationships.

The situation is changing now, but in the past, electronic musical instruments rather than live instruments were used in the creation of k-pop.

The visual culture of k-pop

However, a significant part of the k-pop genre is visual culture. Therefore, a mandatory element – choreography. Almost every song, if it is not a ballad, is accompanied by a dance created for it, which emphasizes certain moments of the song and makes it brighter and the performance – more interesting.

The appearance of the artists is very important. They are always slim and well-groomed girls or guys, with perfect makeup and hairstyles, dressed in the latest Korean fashion. Most often their hair is dyed in different colors, sometimes in extremely bright colors. Their stage outfits are also very colorful, with lots of accessories. The same goes for the music videos – they are bright, dynamic, with expensive decorations and costumes.

Your ears are emitting sounds! Right now, your ears are emitting a variety of high-definition sounds. This recent discovery gave birth to the science of listening to the ears. “Amazing!” – is how Dr. William Brownell of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine describes this fact. His colleague said: “It’s as amazing as if your nose were emitting odors.”

The sounds produced by the ears help you understand speech and also help you determine the direction from which the sound is coming In addition, they enhance the human imagination. Ear beams act as holographic radar; they act as auxiliary beams that interact with incoming sounds to form an interference pattern.

“Let’s take advantage of aural radiation!” – decided Italian physiologist Hugo Zucorelli and used it to create a new kind of three-dimensional sound recording: holography. When you listen to a holophonic recording, you are immersed in a new world – a world of synaesthesia, a world of mixed meaning, similar to the one that spawns poets.

When you hear the sound of a lighted match with a holophonic recording, you also smell sulfur. When you hear the crunch of cookies or crackers or the fizz of lemonade bubbles, you also taste them.

Holographonic recordings can give you the impetus to create images with all the fullness of feeling that is so important for developing memory, improving learning, and healing the mind.
